Much like Amber Alerts are used to help the authorities find missing children, Silver Alerts were intended to help the authorities find people who are older. Systems like the Amber Alert and the Silver Alert were put into place you assist people who in many cases are unable to assist themselves. When I first heard about Silver Alerts, for some reason I thought they were something akin to those medic-alert bracelets. It seemed perfectly logical that people would have a silver bracelet that would alert people to any medical conditions that the person wearing the bracelet had.
Well this is not at all how Silver Alerts work. Although their use relates to medical conditions, since sometimes the subject of a silver alert is ill or incapacitated in some way, they are not silver bracelets.
Depending on how they are implemented, Silver Alerts can sometimes appear on electronic billboards. Watchful citizen can call a number if they have information that relates to the Silver Alert that they have seen.
Based on the name "Silver Alert," you would probably think that the alerts were intended solely for when someone who is of a mature age is missing, but that is not the case. Silver Alerts are also intended to make sure that people who mentally impaired are brought back home safely. There are no age limits on Silver Alerts in most parts of the country. However, some Silver Alert programs concentrate on senior citizens and some do not.
Last year, 108 Silver Alerts went out in one part of North Carolina and 99 of the people were found safe. That seems like a successful record to me. But as is always the case when a program is being implemented, there were some problems. For one thing, there was a substantial increase in the number of Silver Alerts that went out. In the previous year, only six Silver Alerts were issued. Another glitch is that sometimes authorities are not sure how to categorize the mental impairments that Silver Alert subjects may suffer from. Still, the program is admirable and provides a much-needed service.
While we can't promise the kind of protection that things like Silver Alert can provide. What we do know is that when you sell silver to a silver buyer, the instant cash for silver that you get will give you a little peace of mind.
