
From September 24 to 25, 2009, The Silver Summit will take place in Spokane, Washington. Billed as "The World's Premiere Silver Investment Conference," you can expect to learn a lot about silver investment in this event. Since registration has not yet begun, it's a good idea to look at the five anchor companies.
Hecla Mining Company
Started in 1891, Hecla Mining Company is the oldest US-based producer of precious metals in North America. With an output of 8.7 million ounces of silver produced in 2008, Hecla is the biggest silver mining company in the US. The two silver mines are located in Greens Creek, Alaska and Lucky Friday, Idaho. The Greens Creek property is the World's fifth biggest silver mine. Hecla has long been a trusted name among silver investors in the US.
First Majestic Silver Corp.
First Majestic is a Canadian silver mining company with operations in Mexico. One of mine which is wholly owned by First Majestic is the La Parrilla Silver Mine located in the Mexico Silver Belt. The mine has the capacity to produce 1.8 million ounces of silver per annum. The San Martin Silver Mine and the La Encantada Silver Mine are also wholly owned by the company and they can produce 1.5 million and 2 million ounces of silver per year, respectively.
Minco Silver Corporation
Another Canadian Silver Mining company, Minco Silver has interests in China. The premise of the company is based on "indicated and inferred" silver deposits estimated to be in the region of 157 million ounces located in a 2.8 kilometer stretch on the Fuwan Silver Belt near the city of Guangzhou. If things go well, it's expected to be one of the biggest silver producers in the world.
Genco Resources Ltd
Genco is a Canadian silver and gold mining company with investments in Mexico. Its primary mine is the La Guitarra Mine which can be found in the Temascaltepec Mining district of Mexico. Its floatation mill can handle up to 320 tonnes in a day.
