Silver Fox and Wolverine

It's nice to be a superhero, isn't it? You have superhuman powers and sometimes, you cannot die. As "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is still playing in theatres, it will be a good idea to look at one of the more mysterious characters in the movie. In the comics and the movie, Silver Fox (aka Kayla Silverfox) is Wolverine's love interest, probably his first.

If it doesn't happen in the context of a superhero environment, the romance of Silver Fox and Wolverine can rather affecting. Silver Fox is actually a Native Canadian from the Blackfoot tribe. After Wolverine got disgusted with the cold-blooded operatives of Team X, he promptly falls in love with Silver Fox and they enjoy many carefree days in a cabin in some obscure Canada mountain area. This is before Wolverine becomes Wolverine. He's Logan, a good and cheerful lumberjack, totally in love with the woman of his life.

One day, Silver Fox tells Wolverine a strange story about a Spirit who is the lover of the Moon. Just like the two of them, the Spirit and the Moon live a happy life together in the Spirit World. Somehow, the Spirit ends up being separated from the Moon when it was tricked to leave the Spirit World. After that, the Spirit could only look at the moon in the night for it couldn't return to the Spirit World, howling when the Moon is full. That Spirit's name is Wolverine. When Logan discovers that his half-brother Sabretooth has killed Silver Fox, he's enraged, swearing revenge. However, he's no match for Sabretooth so he decides to undergo the Weapon X experiment, adopting his alias, Wolverine. 

After a series of explosive events and chases, Wolverine gets closer to the truth. He's totally devastated to learn that Silver Fox isn't dead! She's a mutant, just like him! If she didn't agree to trick him to undergo the Weapon X experiment, her sister, the mutant Emma Frost would have been killed. Is Silver Fox the moon or the trickster? Does it matter? In the end, Wolverine loses his memory and promptly forgets Silver Fox.

If you take a look at the comic version of Silver Fox and compare her to the movie version of Kayla Silverfox, you may get a good chuckle or two. They are as different as the Spirit and the Moon.
