Many people collect antiques for the value as well as the beauty of the objects. In the case of silver antiques, the items are often valued above the intrinsic worth of the metal. Depending on the historic significance, some silver objects are worth a grand fortune. Here's a beautiful antique silver Chinese mirror that's truly an amazing work of art.
Dated back to around 1890AD, the silver mirror was made by Hung Chong, a famed Chinese silversmith with workshops in Canton and Shanghai. People who are acquainted with silver Chinese antiques will know the Hung Chong name for its high workmanship and intricate designs. The silver hand mirror is measured at 25cm.
To start, let's look at the handle. The very end of the handle is composed of two loops of bamboo interlocking, somewhat similar to the symbol for infinity. Joining the two loops to the head of the mirror is a V-shaped prong of bamboo stems. Inside the holes of these loops are bamboo leaves. If you flip to the back side of the mirror, you will see the Hung Chong silvermark "HC" and two Chinese characters on the bamboo leaf in the bottom most loop. The handle makes up almost half the length of the silver mirror.
On such a magnificent object, it's a little unfortunate that the mirror is a little bit stained and scratched. Yet, the design of the mirror head is definitely something to be cherished. Oval in shape, it's here that you will see the skill and vision of its creator. Among a celestial canvas of clouds, three Chinese dragons are seen to be some sort of conference. The two dragons on the left and right sides of the mirror head appear to be on the verge of a showdown. Their postures indicate hostility so it's clear to see that violence is about to break out. Beneath these two feuding dragons is the third dragon, seen to be spewing fire. Is it trying to stop the fight or is it the umpire? It's a mystery. The outer band of the silver mirror head is a heady combination of clouds, dragon claws, and dragon tails, purportedly belonging to the warring dragons.
If you are a silver buyer of antiques, you may well be interested in this wonderful object. However, you cannot buy it because it's already been sold. If you want to sell silver items, it's a different matter. Just mail in your silver and see how much instant cash for silver you will get!
