Postcards from Silver Peak, Nevada

Have you ever been to a ghost town? Don't be afraid. A ghost town is NOT a town full of ghosts! The term refers to a deserted town that's uninhabited by people so it follows that the town is a ghost of its former self, serving no purpose at all. If you are in the state of Nevada and you want to see what a ghost town looks like, head towards Silver Peak in the county of Esmeralda.

One of the many mining camps located in Nevada, Silver Peak was founded in 1863. In 1865, it had a 10 stamp mill and two years later, a 20 stamp mill. This implies that things were happening very fast back then. For the following 40 years, Silver Peak was a place of lawlessness. In 1906, a substantial amount of investment was put into the area by the Pittsburgh Silver Peak Gold Mining Company, culminating in a 100 stamp mill and the Silver Peak railroad. Though Silver Peak was among the top mining towns in Nevada at that time, everything went downhill about ten years later. In 1948, Silver Peak suffered a burning. Later, the Foote Mineral Company started to extract lithium at the Clayton Valley but Silver Peak largely remained a ghost town.

Today, only a few buildings remain at Silver Peak. Mostly made of timber, they resemble those buildings you see in western movies. Nobody will be least surprised if the Lone Ranger or Zorro suddenly burst out from one of those buildings. There's a building with the word "SIGNS" on top and another with a blue ice box or whatever box that appear to be liveable. The rest of the buldings are rather run-down. There are some partly completed buildings as well as some partly destroyed buildings. You will also see two large water tanks though it's doubtful you will find any water in them. In the quiet and humble cemetery, it can be seen that quite a number of people passed away in Silver Peak. Other interesting images include a slanting chicken pen and a roof on the ground.

In the good times, Silver Peak produced gold and silver. Now, it's a ghost town. Do you want to sell silver? Get in touch with a reputable silver buyer and receive instant cash for silver today!
