Golden Transitions: Rites of Passages of the Youth

 

  Rites of Passages: Now that's not a word that we often here of anymore, yet they still do exist in many cultures and especially here in our country as well. With this being known it will be attempted by the writer here to explore these gold packed legacies of how the youth would transfer over into some type of Adult hood. But before we do that, just exactly what is considered a rite of passage? It has been noted by many Sociologist and scholars on different cultures around the world that a Rite of Passage can loosely be considered as a type of ritual that marks a change in someone's social status or rank. In this case since we are dealing with aspects of the youth it could be like a coming of age ceremony. In particular here in the western particular part of the United States the Quinceanera ceremony or "Becoming a Lady" Ceremony is very popular among the Hispanic community. It is said that this tradition traced it's roots back to 500 C.E with the Aztecs in which a 15 year old girl was considered fit for motherhood. This tradition has carried on with some modern adaptations of course. Besides,  some of the stunning gowns and clothing that people wear, you may catch a glimpse of some precious gold as well and some precious jewelry that may be on display by the young lady that has just turned 15. It is going to be the pleasure of the writer to visit one for the second time tonight and enjoy in on the celebrations.

 

And we think about this further we can truly see that there are rite of passage ceremonies with us all over the place if we think about it hard enough. In some cultures gold pieces are given as gifts to those who have just given birth.  And then there are some Cultures that too, celebrate the transition if a young boy to his transition into adulthood which his considered ‘solid gold' in terms of keeping their culture in tact whether it be sending the boy out on a vision quest as in the case of some Native American Culture or whether it be in some type of display off Warriorhood as in the case of some Clans in Native Africa.  Rites of passage are important because if weaves and solidifies keys aspects of people's cultures; almost in the same way one would feel after selling gold for cash, the feeling is exhilarating.
