Achan and the Accursed Silver

Just before the army of Israel shouted to tumble the walls of Jericho, Joshua gave a little pep talk about how the whole city would be put to the sword, but Rahab the harlot and her family should be spared for she had helped to hide some soldiers in her home. As for the spoils, he said, "But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD." (Joshua 6:19)

After the slaughter of every man, woman, child, and livestock in Jericho, the army of Israel freed Rahab and her household, as promised. As the soldiers were burning and looting, Joshua cursed Jericho, as well as its future builder. It happened that Achan, of the Judah tribe, stole some silver, gold, and other precious items which were supposed to be consecrated unto the LORD, so the LORD was angered.

When the children of Israel attempted to take Ai, they were easily defeated because the LORD was not with them. As a true man of God, Joshua knew something was not right so he asked the LORD and he knew that somebody in the camp had taken the accursed items. The next morning, Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel and announced what God had revealed unto him. Then, he picked out Achan from the tribe of Judah and asked him to confess. Here is Achan's confession.

"When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it." After some messengers found the stolen items in Achan's tent, Joshua ordered the tent along with all of Achan's belongings and family members to be taken to the Valley of Achor. There, the children of Israel stoned Achan, his family, and his livestock to death. Then, the remains and all of Achan's possessions were burned. Since God was appeased, the army of Israel was able to capture Ai very easily.

In those days, the law was very strict. What would have happened if Achan didn't confess, seeing that the confession didn't bring him a more lenient sentence? Well, it's not much use to wonder about the past. If you want to sell silver, now is a good time. Get in touch with a trusted silver buyer and receive instant cash for silver!
