2010 Winter Olympics Silver Coins

From February 12 to 28, 2010, the city of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada will be buzzing with excitement when athletes arrive from all over the world compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics. To commemorate the event, the Royal Canadian Mint has introduced a series of the most wonderful sterling silver coins.

Simple and charming, the Sterling Silver Lucky Loonie coin features the official Vancouver 2010 logo in all its vibrant colors on the obverse. Accompanying the 5-ring symbol of the Olympics, the word "CANADA" is on top and the word "DOLLAR" is below. On the reverse, a somewhat regal-looking Queen Elizabeth II is pictured, without her crown, but recognizable because "ELIZABETH II" appears behind her head while "D.G. REGINA" can be seen in front of her. Then, there is the year "2010" at the bottom.

For the silver buyer who likes heavy coins, it's worthwhile to look at these massive fine silver coins weighing 1 kg each. Containing 99.99 percent of pure silver, the Historic Series is comprised of Early Canada which was released in 2007 and Towards Confederation which was released in 2008. On the obverse of Early Canada, you can see a couple on a canoe, and people going somewhere with their livestock and wigwams. It speaks of migration. The reverse has the same portrait of Elizabeth II, the Vancouver 2010 logo, and the Olympic rings. The words "250 DOLLARS" and "ELIZABETH II" can be seen with the year "2007." The obverse of Towards Confederation is much more complex, with detailed renditions of people, buildings, and events. It depicts the maturity of Canada as a nation. The reverse is much the same as the Early Canada, but the year is "2008," instead of "2007."

On another day, we will look at more of these 2010 Winter Olympics silver coins. For now, you should know that you can sell silver and get instant cash for silver!
