For centuries, Aesop's fables have been told and taught to people all around the world. Simple, yet profound, his tales always end with some moral lessons. That's why teachers always tell these fables to children, but they are just as applicable to adults. One of the lesser known Aesop's fables is The Silver Fir Tree & the Bramble, which is rather much like The Tortoise and the Hare.
One day, the high and mighty silver fir was having a good quarrel with the lowly bramble. In the heat of the quarrel, the silver fir boasted that it's superior in appearance, being tall and slender so it's exceedingly beautiful. She went on to claim that silver fir was the preferred material used to build the decks of merchant ships and warships. Then, she scoffed at the bramble for its audacity to think that it's comparable to the silver fir. The bramble, tough and wise, simply replied that the silver fir would be wishing that she was just a bramble when the woodsmen come to cut her down with their saws and axes. This then is the moral of the story: When life is good to you, don't be too proud, for you shall be reduced, instead, be humble, and you will avoid trouble.
Just like the silver fir, many people become proud when they are blessed with the better things in life. They look down on the less privileged and think that they have more right to live. Is this right? In truth, the blessed should recognize that they are put in their position to help the less blessed, rather than stepping on them. How can the hare lose to the tortoise? It's because of pride.
