2008 Beijing Olympics 1 Kg Folk Sports Silver Coins Series 2 & 3

Just last year, the Summer Olympic Games were held in Beijing, China. Indeed, it was a spectacular event. Now, we will look at two no less spectacular coins, namely, the 2008 Beijing Olympics 1 Kg Folk Sports Silver Coins Series 2 & 3. For some reason, there is no Series 1.

As the names suggest, the coins weigh 1 kg, and they have something to do with the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games. However, these being Chinese folk sports, they were not contested proper. The obverse of the Series 2 silver coin shows three highly sculptured rowers rowing in perfect unison and it seems that they may well be identical triplets. A fourth guy is stationed behind them, most likely sounding the rhythm, with left hand extended. Though it couldn't be discerned on the coin, they were supposed to be in a dragon boat. Slightly above the first rower is the denomination of the coin, "300 yuan." A little higher is a group of Mongolian horsemen racing to the west. At the top of the coin is the Chinese equivalent of the "Games of the 29th Olympiad."

The obverse of the Series 3 silver coin shows three highly muscular men pulling on a rope with all their might and spirit, especially the guy at the end of the rope, where he is pictured as one who is giving every ounce of his strength, to win the tug-or-war. A little left of the first puller is the denomination of the coin, "300 yuan." Balancing the tension of the tug-of-war is a group of people engaged in the traditional martial art form known as taichi. Just like the Series 2 silver coin, the title "Games of the 29th Olympiad" appears on top.

The reverse of both the Series 2 and 3 silver coins show the same design. In the center, the official logo of the Beijing Olympics is supported by the Olympic rings, colored in their official colors. Two highly stylized Chinese dragons surround the logos in an almost square arrangement. On top of the coin are the words "People's Republic of China," and the year "2008" is marked at the bottom.

Only 20,008 of each coin design was minted. The silver coins have a fineness of 999. While one kilogram of silver is valued at about $361, these silver coins are selling for more than $2000 a piece. Is it a good investment? Well, you can always check with a fair silver buyer. Meanwhile, you can sell silver and receive instant cash for silver today!
