In honor of the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the US Mint is releasing a limited amount of dome-shaped coins that are unlike any others that they have produced. The coin will feature a baseball on the rounded, convex size and a baseball glove on the obverse, concave side.
This commemorative coin has been in the works since the signing of The National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act in August of 2012, and the mint has permission to issue up to 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins, and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins with this unique design and shape.
While the French Mint produced a commemorative curved coin in 2009, this US half dollar will be the first ever clad (featuring a copper core and nickel alloy plating) curved coin to be made. For more information on the making of this unique silver coin, click here.
